Time can be brutal on neglected furniture. Furniture varnishes and old finish will dry, crack, and degenerate. Sun damage alone can completely change a favorite heirloom. Guided by the ethics of the American Institute for Conservation, we do our best to maintain the integrity of each piece and provide individual treatments using current methods and approved materials. Marquetry & Inlaid Furniture
Marquetry is the exciting art of veneer and a large part of wooden furniture surface decoration. Whether it is repair or custom fabrication, there are many factors to address: wood movement, glue failure, timber choice. Trained in marquetry and inlay techniques, we are prepared to conserve and restore wooden marquetry, bone, shell, and more. We prepare treatments for failing marquetry and veneer, as well as manufacture handmade marquetry for both old and new custom furniture pieces.
Gilding & Gold-Leaf Restoration
We specialize in the conservation and restoration of gilded frames and furniture. Using traditional materials and methods, we are ready to repair both water gilding and oil gilding, treat existing losses and damage, or newly gild for custom fabrication.
Furniture Maintenance & Touchups
Sometimes furniture just needs a good cleaning. We tailor the approach to each piece and when possible, we offer in home furniture touchup services on-site to repair your pieces without further moving damage. This can be very useful for pieces that see heavy use or recent moving damage. Touchups can also save time for the holidays. We offer cleaning and waxing for period furniture per diem.
